Elsevier was commissioned by the Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC), to undertake a bibliometric-based assessment of the performance of Scotland’s scientific research base to provide ministers, officials and interested stakeholders with an objective overview. The report tracks the performance of Scotland’s scientific research base over a ten-year period (2007-2016), analysing a number of indicators relating to the number and citation impact of publications from Scotland, compared with other UK nations, selected European countries and non-European countries that are similar in population and economic size.
