A new publication from British Council Scotland and Universities Scotland showcases how Scotland’s 19 universities are uniquely positioned for international impact in education, research and innovation. British Council Scotland

Titled “Scotland’s Higher Education: Partnering for Global Impact”, the report highlights the strengths of Scotland’s higher education system and the uniqueness Scotland’s institutions across five different assets. These assets position Scotland as an exceptional partner for international collaboration in education, research, and innovation.

The assets where Scotland’s higher education system thrives nationally and globally are:

  • Tradition of education as a national public good

  • Whole-sector approach to quality enhancement and student experience

  • Focus on graduate skills and employability

  • World-class Scottish research and innovation

  • Positive interplay of international and local

With more than 70,000 international students from over 150 countries studying in Scotland and growing links via trans-national education, the sector is poised to deepen its global ties into new markets.

Designed to inform and inspire, the publication aims to spark conversations and support new bilateral engagements—both for Scotland’s institutions and their international partners.
